  1. Maymont This 100-acre park, originally a Victorian country estate owned by Major James H. Dooley, is home to multiple gardens, wildlife exhibits, and a petting zoo! The learning continues on Belle Isle, with a prison from the Civil War. But education isn't all that the beautiful island offers!   4. The Byrd Theatre Opened in 1928, this movie theatre is by far the oldest, and most historic theatre in the Richmond area, located in Carytown. With room for 1,400 people, including a balcony, the theatre is huge. At certain shows, the Mighty Wurlitzer appears before the movie begins to entertain the audience with a stunning performance on his organ The theatre runs movies that have already left major theatres, and significantly reduces the price.   5. The Virginia Holocaust Museum On the somber side of Richmond, the Virginia Holocaust Museum offers a vivid, shocking, first-hand experience of the Holocaust. Jay Ipson, one of the youngest Holocaust survivors in the Richmond area, helped in creating the museum to remind, and educate people of the true horror of the Holocaust. With barbed wire, authentically dressed mannequins, cramped spaces, and all the atrocities of the Holocaust, the museum accurately portrays the fear Jay Ipson felt.   6. Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens A lush, 24-acre assortment of different gardens, Ginter offers something for all ages.   7. Shockoe Bottom/Shockoe Slip For those people interested in the wild night life, Shockoe Bottom and Shockoe slip always have something to offer.   8. Paramount King's Dominion For those thrill-seeker that likes the sun out, King's Dominion has everything!
